This procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes and involves a series of small injections into the lips. Numbing cream is applied before the procedure to ensure comfort, and most dermal fillers contain a local anesthetic to decrease pain further.
After treatment, patients can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and redness for a few days. Some patients experience mild tenderness in the area. No downtime is needed after this procedure, and patients may return to their regular activities immediately following, though they should avoid strenuous activity for 24 to 48 hours.
Lip filler typically lasts anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on the type of product used and the individual patient’s response.

Fat transfer to the lips is popular for patients seeking a more permanent lip enhancement. During this surgical procedure, fat is harvested from one part of the body, purified, and then injected into the lips.
This procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, with minimal recovery time. For the first 2 to 4 weeks following surgery, it is common to experience some swelling, numbness, bruising, and tension in the face and neck regions. Most patients return to work and normal activities around two weeks after the procedure.
While the body may reabsorb some fat in the weeks following this procedure, the rest of the surviving cells will remain indefinitely, providing permanent results.
