On this episode of The Natural Plastic Surgeon…

Dr. Barrett: A lot of men worry about Botox because they don't want to look feminine or, or things like that.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: And, and I think the key is to, kind of, soften the wrinkles, right?
Travis Mahoney: The whole thing with men and Botox too, I think a lot more people would do it if it was more socially acceptable. Or talked about. I think one of the scariest things is for men to admit that they might want it…

Dr. Barrett:...college I had, I had a procedure done for male gynecomastia. So yeah, so I had like actual, kind of, glandular breast growth. And that was, like, really intimidating to me, like, just to even just bring up the subject with, like, my parents.
Travis Mahoney: Well sure, yeah.

Dr. Barrett:...and you’re at 38 inches.
Travis Mahoney: So that's what? Like, three, four inches?
Dr. Barrett: That’s three inches, over three inches of improvement.
Travis Mahoney: That's awesome.
Dr. Barrett: Hi-five.
Travis Mahoney: I love that.

You are listening to The Natural Plastic Surgeon Podcast. I'm Dr. Daniel Barrett, Board-Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon located right here in Beverly Hills. I specialize in cosmetic surgery of the face, nose, breast and body. This podcast is dedicated to those deciding if plastic surgery is right for them and revealing all the latest beauty secrets. Let’s get started.

01:00 TRAVIS IS TODAY’S SPECIAL GUEST

Dr. Barrett: Everyone, this is the Natural Plastic Surgeon and we have a special guest on the show. We have Travis.
Travis Mahoney: Hi guys.
Dr. Barrett: And so I'm excited to have Travis on board because Travis is a patient of mine. And he recently underwent a procedure. And he's here today to, kind of, share it with us. And I think that's, kind of, special because a lot of people think about plastic surgery and they think of it’s, oh, it's, like, what women get. You know, they get breast implants or they get, you know, Mommy Makeover, and...But a lot of people don't realize that plastic surgery is perfectly okay and really awesome for men too.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah absolutely.
Dr. Barrett: So, so Travis, thank you for being on the show. I do want to give you a little quick introduction. Travis is 29 years old. He lives in Venice. He's originally from Lake Tahoe, which I, I want to, can I dive in here just a minute? What's it like to grow up in Lake Tahoe?
Travis Mahoney: It's funny. I mean, you grow up in a, like, destination location. Like, everyone goes to vacation there but, yeah, it's, it’s interesting. I ski a lot. Yeah, I miss Tahoe. I love Tahoe
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, well, I...yeah, I love Tahoe too. But I didn't know there's anybody that actually grows up there. I guess there has to be at some point.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah right?
Dr. Barrett: So you moved to Los Angeles soon after college, you went to UC Davis. You have a three-month-old dog named June.
Travis Mahoney: I do. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Hopefully we'll be at this, we'll get to see?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, towards, yeah...And then you work in outside sales for a high-end food and beverage company. Aka, you always bring cookies to the office.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, I didn’t today. I didn’t today.
Dr. Barrett: Okay, that's all right. I mean, you know, I could have used some today after the marathon yesterday. But, and you leave, you lead a healthy and active lifestyle and enjoy working out, you play kickball, long walks, jogs on the beach in Venice, and most recently, playing with your new puppy, June.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, correct.
Dr. Barrett: Okay, so plastic surgery.
Travis Mahoney: Great.
Dr. Barrett: What, when did this cross your mind that you were, you wanted to do something?

03:00 TRAVIS HAD GYNECOMASTIA

Travis Mahoney: Yeah, no that's a really good question. I mean I think I've, yeah I think genetically...I've always been a very active person growing up. I always played a lot of sports in Tahoe, I skied a ton. But I think from, like, a young age I started, I mean, I don't know how to say it other than, like, man boobs.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: I kind of, like, had, like, more fat on my chest.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Which was always pretty self-conscious and felt, kind of, insecure about.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: And even when I was in the best shape possible, when I was dieting and all that kind of stuff, it was still, it was still there.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: So it's something that I, kind of, struggled with in high school and in college. And then I thought about plastic surgery when I was, like, 21, after college. But then I was too intimidated.
Dr. Barrett: Right, because it's, like, where do you, where do you even start to look for resources? I mean, you google plastic surgery? And it’s, like, you probably don't find too many resources for men.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. And, like, some of the images you see at first are scary.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. Oh ‘cause you see, because what is the internet, what do people want to see they, like, the, the horror stories?
Travis Mahoney: Goriest, gnarliest, grossest stuff.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, like Catwoman or whoever. You know who I’m talking about.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, yeah, totally.
Dr. Barrett: Just way overdone stuff.
Travis Mahoney: But yeah, luckily, my, I don't know, my family was pretty open about it. I talked to my mom about it. And she's, like, well, if it's something that really bothers you, and it’s something that you want to do...
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney:...we can definitely talk about it.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: So I explored a little bit when I was like, 21, and then I continued to, like, struggle with, through diet and exercise, with certain areas of my body that wouldn't respond. And I think, I don't know what it was, but I'm, I’m almost 30 now and I was, like, if I’m ever gonna do it, like, I want to do it now.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: Well, I'm still young and I can enjoy this, I think, the most. Rather than waiting till I'm 40 and other things start falling apart.
Dr. Barrett: Or, or it gets harder, like, your commitments in life get more complicated, or work or whatever. And it just gets harder and harder to take some time off to get stuff done.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. So and luckily, thanks to my relationship that I started with you, I think four or five years ago?
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: I felt confident and comfortable to come to you.
Dr. Barrett: Right. And what did we do four or five years ago, if you don't mind sharing?

04:30 TRAVIS HAD BOTOX INJECTIONS

Travis Mahoney: It was just, yeah, it was Botox.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: I think my friends had told me about preventative Botox, meaning, like, you get Botox in your forehead before you get wrinkles, then you won't get wrinkles. And so I would do it for fun with my friends sometimes. And I did it for, like, I think I actually, I just, kind of, pumped the brakes on it a little while ago because I was, like, I think men look, kind of, good with some natural wrinkles.
Dr. Barrett: Right. I agree.
Travis Mahoney: But yeah, so that's how I met you.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, no, you, you bring a good, a good point up. Like, a lot of men worry about Botox because they don't want to look feminine or, or things like that.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: And I, and I think the key is to, kind of, soften the wrinkles, right? Because I think certain kinda wrinkles look okay.
Travis Mahoney: Right.
Dr. Barrett: But, or you get rid of him completely. But I think softening them is good. Because like, I'll get Botox, but I'll wait, like, six to eight months between doing it.
Travis Mahoney: Sure. Sure.
Dr. Barrett: And I'm getting, I'm definitely getting some movement back. And then get, starting to get the traces of a wrinkle. But it's good to, kind of, do that Botox before it gets too deep.
Travis Mahoney: Right. Yeah, absolutely. And I think too, like, I think the whole thing with men and Botox too. I think a lot more people would do it if it was more socially acceptable. Or talked about. I think one of the scariest things is for men to admit that they might want it. Or would feel more confident if they had it. Or to make the appointment to go get it.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Or to like, walk in and out of the plastic surgeon's office.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: Like, without feeling self-conscious.

05:41 TRAVIS WONDERED WHAT PEOPLE THOUGHT WHEN HE WALKED OUT OF THE OFFICE

Dr. Barrett: Did, did you ever feel weird walking into my office?
Travis Mahoney: I mean, even I did, yeah. And that was, like, yeah. Even when I came with, yeah, there's a lot more women. And I came with one of my good friends. I was just still, like, oh, like, what will people think of me walking out?
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: I don't know, some young guy. And, of course, it's, like, all in my head. They probably, who knows, they don’t, they’re not even thinking about me.
Dr. Barrett: Right? They could be there just, you know, drop, to like Postmates or something.
Travis Mahoney: Exactly. Exactly.

06:00 DR. BARRETT HAD GYNECOMASTIA SURGERY

Dr. Barrett: But you know, that's, that's really good feedback because...you know when I, when I was actually, when I was in college, I had, I had a procedure done for male gynecomastia.
Travis Mahoney: Okay.
Dr. Barrett: So, so I had, like, actual, kind of, glandular breast growth.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And that was, like, really intimidating me, like, just to even just bring up the subject with, like, my parents. I was, like, this isn’t right, and, you know, I showed my mom. She's like, yeah, you're right. And so I go to the doctors, and it’s such an awkward thing. It wasn't even a plastic surgeon, I went to a general surgeon and all that stuff.
Travis Mahoney: Sure. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: So you know, so, I, I hear you. But something I don't even think, like, I walk in my own waiting room. And I was, like, how, how would this feel for, like, an average male patient?
Travis Mahoney: Sure. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: So. But you, you were really strong and you, and you decided to do surgery. So what surgery did you have?

06:50 TRAVIS HAD LIPOSUCTION

Travis Mahoney: Yeah, so I, I guess it was like six months ago now? But I had liposuction on my chest. A little on my neck.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Which has actually been wonderful.
Dr. Barrett: It’s chiseled. It is so...every time I look at you, I'm like, I cannot believe it. It’s amazing...
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. I look like I’m, like, 21 again.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: But what's, what was great about the nec, like, the neck liposuction was that I think, in my, genetically, from my mom's side of the family we’ve, kind of, got, like, double chins.
Dr. Barrett: Yes.
Travis Mahoney: And even if I was, like, in great shape, it was still there. So I'm glad we addressed that.
Dr. Barrett: Yep. Which is funny, because I think my, I have, kind of, a double chin a little bit. And unless I'm, like, super peak, like, fasting, it, it shows.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And it's like, that's hard, right. It's hard to do. And I noticed my daughter, kind of, has it a little bit too, and I’m, like, oh crap, did I just pass that on? You know, so...It is genetic, I think.
Travis Mahoney: I think so. I think so. Yeah, so that was glad. I'm glad we took care of that. I also got, like, a little liposuction on my stomach and my love handles.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: And so, I don't know, I'm really, really happy I did it. Another reason why I felt confident, comfortable coming to you is because, I think it's, I didn't necessarily want to change how I looked. I just kind of wanted to, like, look like the best version of myself.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: And I know that you, kind of, just naturally enhance, right?
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: So you're not, like, gonna do something crazy or...

08:01 MALE LIPOSUCTION IS DIFFERENT

Dr. Barrett: Right so, so there, there's some real key points when it comes to doing liposuction on a male patient. It's not the same as a female patient, right? Female, female anatomy and desired shapes, I mean, of course everyone's different. But it's generally more of, like, an hourglass shape. For men, it's different. We want to, kind of, sculpt the body in a way that's, kind of, like, a V-shape. It's kind of a muscular, or more masculine type of form. And so that's exactly, you know, after a consultation, that's exactly what we did for you. The neck was pretty straightforward. I, I did, kind of, try to do some things to highlight your, your strong jaw, which is awesome. Turned out great. But when it came to the abdomen, I do a higher, like a high-definition liposuction, meaning that we, kind of, do a little bit extra where grooves should be.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: So that you can, kind of, see some, some of the underlying muscles that you have there.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: But the, the, the thing that is really important is liposuction is really not, it's not a weight loss thing. It's not for losing weight. It's, it's for getting rid of stubborn areas. And these were all stubborn areas for you. And the, the male chest area is one of the most common areas. It's really frustrating. So in summary, for your operation...
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: We took off 1100 cc's from your abdomen, fat. 900 from the right flank. 950 from the left flank. This, like, that's, like, love handles on the sides.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: And I went all the way back.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Chest, 375 on the right. 300 on the left. The neck, 150 cc's.
Travis Mahoney: Okay.
Dr. Barrett: For a grand total of 3,775 cc's.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: I mean, if you want to put that...like, I took pictures of the fat that we took off.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: I wish I had it here today. I’d show it to you. But did you ever see that fat?
Travis Mahoney: I think I did when I was coming out of anesthesia a little bit.
Dr. Barrett: Okay. Oh, gross. Sorry. But if you were to put this on a table right now, that would be like two 2-liters. Like...
Travis Mahoney: Holy sh...yeah wow.
Dr. Barrett: I know, right? You can say shit. It’s our broadcast. But, yeah, that's like 2-liter of coke and 2-liter of coke off of your body. You know.
Travis Mahoney: That’s incredible. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. And so it's just, it's just a really powerful way and, you know, there's other ways to do certain things, like CoolSculpting and...
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett:...Venus Legacy, but nothing comes close to....
Travis Mahoney: No because I’ve even tried some of the freezing the fat off.
Dr. Barrett: You did? You did?
Travis Mahoney: Prior to coming to you.
Dr. Barrett: Well, tell me about that.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah I think I forgot about that. I think I did that because it was, like, the next step without going to surgery. I thought.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Before trying surgery.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: I did it on my abdomen. It worked, like, kinda. A little bit. It was, like, I think, a third of the price.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Of the liposuction.
Dr. Barrett: But one sheet, one treatment? Or did you get a series?
Travis Mahoney: I think I got, like, three treatments. But it was pretty much, it was, I think it was, I wouldn't do it again.
Dr. Barrett: Okay. Was it painful?
Travis Mahoney: No.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: I mean, I felt like, like little, little bits of pain sometimes, when they were doing it, but no.
Dr. Barrett: Okay. Well, I think that was why yours was, kind of, tough. I remember now because when you do get CoolSculpting, it creates a lot of scar tissue. So yeah, it sequesters the fat so the fat’s, like, very stubborn to get out.
Travis Mahoney: Oh, okay yeah. Yeah. That makes sense. Oh interesting.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, so I think it was, I remember you being sore after your procedure. That's probably why. All that CoolSculpting.
Travis Mahoney: There ya go.
Dr. Barrett: Just kidding. No, but that’s good. You know those things have a place for everything but I, I, you know, I, I just love getting dramatic results.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, yeah of course.
Dr. Barrett: And so I really feel that liposuction is, body contouring is, is really the most powerful way to do that.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: So tell, tell me about, tell me about the procedure. You know, we, we did all this removal. Like, when you woke up, how were, or when you came in for the day of surgery, what were you thinking?

11:17 SURGERY DAY

Travis Mahoney: Yeah, so I think, I mean, I think it was most intimidated by the idea of anesthesia. I know it’s so funny too, because anesthes...anesthesia, everyon...apparently it’s, like, very, very safe.
Dr. Barrett: It’s extremely safe. You're more likely to get struck by lightning than you are...
Travis Mahoney: Right, right. Or hit by, or crash in a plane or something crazy.
Dr. Barrett: Exactly. Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: But I think it was just the idea of being knocked out unconscious. And then having people work on you. That was, like, just kind of freaked me out a little bit.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, right. You have to trust, like, it’s totally trust.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, you really have to trust.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: And so I think that's another reason why. Luckily, I knew you and had the relationship developed with you.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: That I totally trusted you.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: So I was, like, I was really excited. I was, like, ready for it.
Dr. Barrett: Okay. Yeah, I mean, it's, it is what it is. And, and as long as you have that trust, and you've done your research and you develop that bond, you know, I think that's, that's key.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And I take that very seriously. Because it's just, like, you're, you're out, you’re, you know? You're completely trusting me to do this work and...
Travis Mahoney: Totally.
Dr. Barrett:...and I get, I get really amped every day, every surgery day. I do get amped on my, my post-op days and my client days.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: But when I really get amped up is for surgery days.
Travis Mahoney: Sure. Sure.
Dr. Barrett: Because this is where I get to really make a difference.
Travis Mahoney: Absolutely. That’s so cool.
Dr. Barrett: All right, Waking up.

12:20 WAKING UP AFTER SURGERY

Travis Mahoney: Waking up. Waking up was okay. Everything was okay. I think, I had, I hadn't anticipated how painful, like, the first couple of days right after were gonna be.
Dr. Barrett: Okay. Yeah, where was it more sore?
Travis Mahoney: So I think I had, like, a lot of swelling around my love handle area, or my flank area. And it was pretty swoll, like, swollen. And then we also drove down, down home to Orange County, so I was, like, sitting in a car. That didn’t help.
Dr. Barrett: Oh, okay.
Travis Mahoney: But yeah, it was really just, like, the first day or so that was pretty uncomfortable.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: And then I don't know, I feel like you kind of bounce back pretty quickly.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: At least I did.
Dr. Barrett: So tell us, tell us about the recovery. Like, it was a couple days of soreness. And then, when would you say you're, kind of, like, back in action?

12:55 RECOVERY PROCESS

Travis Mahoney: Like, like feeling like myself?
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Probably, like, a month?
Dr. Barrett: Really?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. Yeah. I started out by doing, like, small walks. And then gradually increasing.
Dr. Barrett: Yep.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, it was pretty, it's pretty funny. Because even now, still I feel like it's still, kind of, like the swelling is going down.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Or continuing to go down.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: But yeah, the, wearing the body suits was kind of funny.
Dr. Barrett: Yes.
Travis Mahoney: Getting used to that.
Dr. Barrett: Yep. Did anybody say anything?
Travis Mahoney: No, no one said anything. No one noticed anything. Yeah, it was fairly easy, to be honest.
Dr. Barrett: Good.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: That’s, that's really good feedback. ‘Cause it's interesting, you know, liposuction, yes, we get the fat out right away. But that healing response, where you get that skin tightening, and get that other tightening effect, that lasts up to six months, typically.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And sometimes the sensation can be a little bit off. You get a little bit of numbness. Temporary numbness.
Travis Mahoney: Oh yeah, I had some numbness.
Dr. Barrett: Did you, did it get better?
Travis Mahoney: I thought it was kinda fun. Yeah it was totally fine, I feel like I normally...
Dr. Barrett: Okay, you just gotta be careful. Like, if it's on the stomach and you're leaning over a hot stove. You can get burned, I had somebody get burned that way one time.
Travis Mahoney: Oh no!
Dr. Barrett: I know, you just have to have awareness of where your body parts are. Okay, and what was, what was the most surprising thing, like, that you, that you felt occurred during that whole surgery, consult, surgery and recovery process?

14:15 MOST SURPRISING THING

Travis Mahoney: The most profound thing? Surprising thing?
Dr. Barrett: Profound or surprising? Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: I don't know. So I think, I mean, I think the best part of the whole process was working with you and your team.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: You guys were incredibly, like, made me just feel really, really comfortable.
Dr. Barrett: Good.
Travis Mahoney: Between, like, from you to the nurses, to the front of the house or the, I guess that’s what we call it in restaurants, but, like, the...
Dr. Barrett: What, front of the house? The front office? That’s cool.
Travis Mahoney: The front office, they’re, everyone's fantastic.
Dr. Barrett: That’s good to know.
Travis Mahoney: Really, makes you feel really comfortable.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, I think what was most surprising is I, in my head, I had, like, an idea, like, I thought liposuction was so dramatic and, like...
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney:...so intense and so crazy, like surgery. But you know, it's not, it's not quite as intense as I imagined. And I don't know, I'm jus, I’m really happy I did it.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: How are clothes fitting?
Travis Mahoney: Great.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah?
Travis Mahoney: Great. Yeah, I think the biggest thing that I noticed is, like, when I put a T-shirt on I get, normally I would always, like, look at my chest and kind of protrude a little bit more, and, like, not in ways that I wanted it to. But now it's, like, kind of flat and even. I don't know, I just feel, now it's really nice because I throw clothes on, and I don't think about it anymore when I'm walking down the street. Or, like, I don't, I'm not, like, in my head, self-conscious about it. I think that's probably, like, the best side effect of all this stuff is that I just feel more confident and comfortable in my own skin. Which is really cool.
Dr. Barrett: That's amazing.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: I mean, I, I really can't...like, that makes my day. Because it's just, I made, like, that's gonna, that’s gonna be with you for the rest of your life.
Travis Mahoney: Right and, like, like I said before, I've, like, literally been in my head. Like, self-conscious about this stuff for probably, like, 20 years.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. And it's so tough because it’s like, people, we live in, like, oh, be confident in your body. And, and you know? And it's like, I, I believe that. Do that as best you can. Right.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Don't, don't obsess over little things. But if it's really getting to you, and you've thought about it for several years, and there's a plastic surgery fix for it?
Travis Mahoney: Totally.
Dr. Barrett: Do it.
Travis Mahoney: Totally. I’m all for it.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, just do it. Life’s short.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, life’s short. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. It's just, like, enjoy it. And, and go get the body you want. As long as it's doable and reasonable.
Travis Mahoney: And it’s healthy and...
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: I completely agree.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. Well, that's fantastic. And in terms of...I meant to ask you more about your results. Like waist size, measurements. Like, do, do you, are you same size in waist or…?

16:16 HIS WAIST SIZE CHANGED

Travis Mahoney: Yeah, actually, I think the waist has shrunk a little bit.
Dr. Barrett: Has a bit? Okay.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, I think, I haven't been, I haven't, like, using tape measures or anything like that.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: I’ve kinda just been going off of how I feel and...
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney:...just trying, because I want to have, like, a sustainable, healthy, like, I don't know, way to approach things moving forward. or continue to move forward. But yeah, I feel great. I think what's most important too is, like, I've been paying attention to how I feel in clothes and, like, how I look when I look in the mirror.
Dr. Barrett: Okay.
Travis Mahoney: I remember when I caught my image in the mirror at first, I was, like, holy shit. Like, I look like that now? Cool.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: You know? It’s amazing.
Dr. Barrett: That's awesome. I just wanna, I just, I just burn that mentally in my brain, you know? Because that's, that’s so cool. Because it's such a, it's just very rarely do you have something that happens in your life that makes, like, a positive impact...
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: On your, on your appearance.
Travis Mahoney: Totally. Totally. So, I don't know, I'm a patient for life. I love you guys.
Dr. Barrett: Oh thanks, Travis.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: I appreciate that. Well, you know, so, so men and plastic surgery. You know, this is LA. It's actually, it's, it’s more common here than any other, any other city.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.
Dr. Barrett: Which is fantastic. But it's still, it's still on the smaller side. What, what would you tell, like, a, a, a male out there, or man out there that's thinking about doing something that, for something that bothers him?

17:24 TRAVIS SHARES ADVICE

Travis Mahoney: Yeah, that's a really great question. I think most people, I mean, I think we all want to feel great. And we all want to feel like the best versions of ourselves. And we all want to feel good. And I think men, kind of, play that down, like, a little bit more to, like, act more masculine. So I would just say, like, listen to your gut. Trust yourself. And if it's something that you want to explore, like, do it. And who cares what anyone else thinks? As long as you feel good about it and as long as you're doing in a healthy manner.
Dr. Barrett: Right.
Travis Mahoney: I think that's, personally, that's what I think is the most important.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah, and, and I think if you are considering of getting a plastic surgery procedure, get someone who ha, who has male patients.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: Who, who's familiar with, with, you know, male, the differences. The subtle, nice but, but important differences for, for doing male body contouring and, and so forth. Board-certified plastic surgeon, you definitely want to make sure that they're, you know, legit. And those are, are really key things.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. I mean, I know that actually reminds me of something too. When I met you four or five years ago, it was through a referral.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: My friend, Kareem.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Which I was, like, great. Cool.
Dr. Barrett: He was actually working here.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, he was working here. Yeah. And so you always trust him more on his referral. But then I went to do my own research and I looked online, and I saw your Yelp reviews. And I was like, okay, great. ‘Cause that's the other thing that I really use too. So it's, like, you...I feel like you can really trust...

18:30 YELP REVIEWS

Dr. Barrett: Yelp. Yeah, Yelp is actually pretty legit. Because you can't, you can't take any of those reviews down.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And they, they tend to keep everything up there.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: So it’s, like, you get the good and you get the bad.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And which I think is good. I think, I think, I think everybody benefits when you can share, of course, you can have some made up ones, right? Where people just make stuff up about you? But, I think, by and large, most people know how to filter those out. Right?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, of course. And anyone’s gonna, like, you’re gonna get a little bit of this and....
Dr. Barrett: But you can, it just, I think it keeps, it's like your Uber, right? When you get in an Uber, you know you're getting judged. Versus you get in a taxi, it’s like, that guy knows he could talk on the phone, and you have no way to directly rate him.
Travis Mahoney: Totally. Totally.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. When was the last time you were in a taxi?
Travis Mahoney: I don't even remember.
Dr. Barrett: Right? You know what's funny is certain cities have banned tax...or banned Ubers. Where was it? I think it was Vancouver. I can't remember. But I, I thought that was so sad because there's no way to, kind of, review it.
Travis Mahoney: Sure.

19:30 JUNE IS A SURPRISE SPECIAL GUEST

Dr. Barrett: But. But anyway, we have, we have a third special guest here. Is this June? This is so cute. Can I hold...is it a him? Or her?
Travis Mahoney: It’s a girl. June. Oh, sleepy girl.
Dr. Barrett: Okay, hi, baby. So we have June. And how old is June?
Travis Mahoney: June is only three months.
Dr. Barrett: Oh my goodness.
Travis Mahoney: As you can tell, she's getting some wrinkles.
Dr. Barrett: Yes. So we have some doggie Botox ready for you.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: And then is this your first dog?
Travis Mahoney: First dog that I've had for myself. As an adult.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. Yeah. And then how did you make the decision to get June?
Travis Mahoney: You know, it was, kind of, funny. I, I took some, like, dog, dog, like, selector tests that were based on my lifestyle and all that kind of stuff.
Dr. Barrett: There's dog selector tests?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, well, it tells you, like, like, what your lifestyle is like and what's the best fit. And so they kept coming up with French Bulldog ‘cause they're, like, great for apartments.
Dr. Barrett: Oh this is a Frenchie?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah. She’s like a Oreo cookie merle.
Dr. Barrett: Wow. Oreo cookie merle. This is like, I feel like this is a designer, designer spots here. You guys you gotta check out, if you're listening to the audio podcast, you've gotta check out the video version of this.
Travis Mahoney: She’s the cutest.
Dr. Barrett: Here let me hand her over to you.
Travis Mahoney: Hi baby.
Dr. Barrett: She misses you. That's so special. Well, I didn't know that. But that's so cool.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah.
Dr. Barrett: So now you’ve got a cute puppy.
Travis Mahoney: Got a cute puppy.
Dr. Barrett: You’ve got an awesome body.
Travis Mahoney: Looking good. Lovin’ life.
Dr. Barrett: There’s nothing holding you back. Yeah.
Travis Mahoney: Life is good.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. Life is really good, man. So I'm, I’m so happy for you. I'm excited. You know we should probably, we’ll do another, like, follow up and I will get some, your final measurements. And see because I think we recorded your waist, your waist measurements prior. And I know, I know that's definitely probably changed since the surgery, but...Can we hand the dog off to, to one of you guys really quick? Ok. That is oh my God. Okay, all right. All right, so Travis so I've got, I've got your notes here. Your previous waist measurement was 41.25 inches. Would you be willing to let me do a waist measurement on you?
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, sure.

21:30 TRAVIS’ NEW WAIST SIZE

Dr. Barrett: Let's go stand up and we'll do it. I'll do it from right here. And I'll stay with the mic here so that they can, they can hear us. And let’s go ahead and just, I’ll pull this up just a little bit. All right, so we're doing the waist measurement. Okay guys, and all, all the way around, right at the belly button. Wow. You're at 38 inches.
Travis Mahoney: So that's what? Like, three, four inches?
Dr. Barrett: That’s three inches, over three inches of improvement.
Travis Mahoney: That's awesome.
Dr. Barrett: Hi-five.
Travis Mahoney: I love that.
Dr. Barrett: What a difference. I mean, you've, you’ve kept the same activity and everything else. And we've just took off three inches off your waist.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, that's amazing.
Dr. Barrett: Yeah. And we haven't even touched all the other measurements. But, you know, when, when we do your six-month, we'll, we'll record all that. And we’ll put that in the show notes and everything. So we can and we’ll share it with you obviously, in your digital before and afters and everything. So awesome. Well, Travis, well, thank you so much for being on the show.
Travis Mahoney: Yeah, thank you.
Dr. Barrett: Is there anything else you want to share with those people out there? Any particular listeners?
Travis Mahoney: I guess not, not really. I mean, if you're interested, I think do, like, explore it. It's totally worth exploring. I think it's gonna, can have really positive effects on your life if you decide to go through with it. Yeah, Dr. Barrett’s a great guy. I highly recommend him. So...
Dr. Barrett: Travis, you’re amazing. And stay, keep in touch. And we always enjoy having you in the office.
Travis Mahoney: Cool, thank you so much.
Dr. Barrett: All right. Thank you.
