Gummy Bear Implants
Women who decide to enhance their breasts with implants have an extensive range of options. Form-stable breast implants, also known as “gummy bear” implants, are the preferred option for many patients who want to maintain a natural look and feel to their breasts.
Are Gummy Bear Implants
right for you ?
Gummy bear implants are popular options for many breast surgery patients because they contain a cohesive silicone filling that is thicker and more structured than traditional silicone gel implants. Because of the more stable composite, these implants retain the coveted teardrop shape without much assistance or support. For a more lifted, push-up bra look, round gummy bear implants increase upper pole fullness in the breasts.
Regardless of the shape, gummy bear implants are also popular due to their durability compared to traditional silicone and saline gel implants. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will listen to your goals and concerns and perform an extensive exam to decide if gummy bear implants are the best option for your breast augmentation.
Benefits
Less risk of folding, wrinkling, and rippling
Possible lower risk of capsular contracture
If tearing or rupture occurs, the implant will continue to hold its size or shape
Minimal sagging and lateral movement after surgery
Less likely to change shape or position in the breast over time
range of sizes and shapes for full customization
While many good reasons exist to consider gummy bear implants, there are other options for some patients. Dr. Barrett will evaluate each patient’s situation and aesthetic goals to help decide if this approach is correct.
Before surgery
A patient care concierge will guide you through the entire consultation process, which can be attended in person or virtually. During the consultation, your surgeon will learn about your goals, answer any questions, and perform an examination to create a personalized surgical plan. You’ll provide photos representing your breast goals and discuss your implant options. You will then be matched with a surgical coordinator who will walk you through each step of the preoperative process.
During surgery
To perform this procedure, incisions will be made according to the operative plan created during your consultation.
After the surgery
Patients will experience swelling and soreness for the first few days following their procedure but are often pleased to find this stage of recovery is very short. Most patients begin feeling better within three days and return to work within the week if their job is not overly strenuous. Pain, swelling, and sensitivity will linger for a few weeks but subside enough to allow you to return to most activities.
Patients are encouraged to walk immediately after surgery to prevent blood clots and improve circulation, but rigorous exercise should be restricted for two weeks, and upper-body activities should be avoided for six weeks. It takes about six weeks for the breasts to drop and fluff and six months to see their final appearance.
Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for optimal post-operative care, including an advanced scar management protocol after the initial healing period. Your surgical team is always available and will closely monitor your recovery in the weeks and months following surgery.
Breast implants are designed to last many years, making them a great investment of time and money. The FDA and implant manufacturers recommend replacing implants every ten years. Regular monitoring of breast implants after augmentation is also recommended.
