Liposuction

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures, liposuction removes localized fat deposits in specific body areas for a slimmer, more contoured look. While it does not replace traditional dieting and exercise, it can remove stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to traditional weight loss methods.

Pre and Post Operative Instructions
About

Liposuction is an excellent procedure for patients in good overall health who maintain a healthy lifestyle but have one or more problem areas with stubborn fat. Patients should remember that liposuction cannot be used for substantial weight loss. Instead, it removes excess fat in localized regions after the patient has attempted other traditional weight loss methods.

Common treatment areas for liposuction include:

Thighs and Knees

Abdomen and Flanks

Arms

Back

Hips

Neck

Buttocks

Chest

Face and Neck

Calves

Ankles

Liposuction is often combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), a fat transfer to the breasts, or a tummy tuck to achieve maximum results. During the initial consultation, your surgeon will provide a comprehensive exam and discuss your goals to understand if this procedure is correct for you.

Before surgery

A patient care concierge will guide you through the entire consultation process, which can be attended in person or virtually. During the consultation, your surgeon will learn about your goals, answer any questions, and perform an examination to create a personalized surgical plan. You will then be matched with a surgical coordinator who will walk you through each step of the preoperative process.

PRE-OP PREPARATION:
Stop smoking
Fill prescriptions
Stop medications & supplements that exacerbate bleeding
Plan time away from work, childcare & pet care for recovery
Find a family member or friend to bring you home & assist you after surgery

During surgery

Several tiny incisions will be made in the treated area, and a fine cannula will be inserted to suction out the fat gently. Very few, if any, stitches are needed after liposuction since the incisions are small enough to heal on their own.

Your surgeon will use the revolutionary S.A.F.E. liposuction technique, which stands for separation, aspiration, and fat equalization. The separation phase occurs when the vibrating cannula loosens and separates the fat cells from the rest of the tissue. Aspiration refers to the removal of fat cells from the body using suction incorporated into the cannula. The fat equalization phase requires the surgeon to leave a thin layer of fat just underneath the dermis to create a smoother contour and reduce the risk of dimpling on the skin's outer surface.

After the surgery

Liposuction's most common side effects include mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated area. Compression garments or elastic bandages can be used to help reduce these symptoms while healing takes place. Patients usually can return to work and regular activities within a few days, but strenuous activities like exercise should be avoided for a few weeks.

Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for optimal post-operative care, including an advanced scar management protocol after the initial healing period. Your surgical team is always available and will closely monitor your recovery in the weeks and months following surgery.
