Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that involves removing or rearranging the nasal bone and/or cartilage. This procedure can be performed for cosmetic purposes, to alter the nose's appearance, or for medical purposes to correct breathing problems caused by structural defects.
Is a Rhinoplasty
right for you ?
Rhinoplasties are an excellent procedure for patients with aesthetic or functional concerns about their noses. A rhinoplasty can correct a host of breathing difficulties associated with nasal deformities and drastically change the appearance of the nose. Nasal growth must be complete before undergoing this surgery, so young patients will not typically qualify.
During your initial consultation, an extensive physical exam and an understanding of overall health will help your surgeon determine if this surgery is right for you.

Before surgery
A patient care concierge will guide you through the entire consultation process, which can be attended in person or virtually. During the consultation, your surgeon will learn about your goals, answer any questions, and perform an examination to create a personalized surgical plan. You will then be matched with a surgical coordinator who will walk you through each step of the preoperative process.
During surgery
There are two main ways to access the internal structures of the nose to make aesthetic and functional changes:
Closed Rhinoplasty: The closed method is performed through the nostrils and does not leave a visible scar. Patients desiring small changes, such as hump removal and minor tip modification, are ideal candidates for this method. Closed rhinoplasties result in less swelling and increased efficiency during surgery. Visibility, however, is restricted.
Open Rhinoplasty: The open method is performed by making an external incision between the nostrils and lifting the skin to expose the internal framework of the nose. This method allows for more precise changes and is particularly helpful for executing delicate tip-shaping maneuvers, adding cartilage grafts, or reconstructive purposes. This technique requires a longer recovery time and a small scar.
After surgery
After surgery, patients commonly experience some swelling and bruising, a nose ache or dull headache, and mild bleeding or nose stuffiness. About 1 week of downtime is typical, during which patients may need to wear a nasal splint or bandage. Most patients return to work within a week if strenuous activity can be avoided. Results become gradually apparent as swelling subsides and can take up to a year to achieve a final appearance.
Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for optimal post-operative care, including an advanced scar management protocol after the initial healing period. Your surgical team is always available and will closely monitor your recovery in the weeks and months following surgery.
Patients with realistic expectations are generally pleased with the appearance of their new nose. It is important to remember that results depend on the patient’s nasal bone and cartilage structure, facial shape, skin thickness, and age.
