Liposuction vs. Body Sculpting

Ready to Get Rid of Fat?
Sometimes, no matter how dedicated you are to your workout routine or how consistent you are with counting
calories, there’s that pouch on your stomach, those extra inches on your thighs or that jiggle on your arms that just won’t go away. Recently, there’s been a lot of buzz about non-surgical methods that promise liposuction-like results. But do they really work? And more importantly, do they last?
Non-surgical methods like Coolsculpting are fat-freezing methods that use a device to cool your fat to a temperature that destroys it, without affecting your skin and other tissues. Results, however, tend to vary depending on the person and won’t be fully visible for up to a few months. Other methods for body contouring, like Emsculpt, builds muscle and burns fat via high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM) pulses to the muscle tissue. Both procedures work best on those who don’t have much fat to lose or muscle to build.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Usually performed on an outpatient basis, liposuction is performed via several tiny incisions, through which a fine cannula needle, The procedure removes stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight loss methods and contours areas of the body by removing fat deposits to achieve a slimmer, more sculpted shape.Recent medical advancements, new technologies and improved techniques have vastly improved the amount of pain and downtime commonly associated with liposuction procedures.
Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthetic, depending on the area being treated and the amount of fat that will be removed. Dr. Barrett will make several tiny incisions in the treated area, and a fine cannula is then inserted through the incisions to suction out the fat. Few to no stitches are needed after liposuction since the incisions are small enough to heal on their own.
While liposuction or non-surgical body contouring won’t replace a healthy lifestyle, liposuction allows for direct sculpting where the surgeon has total control and can deliver a custom contour. Coolsculpting and Emsculpt, on the other hand, are only as varied as their respective devices. They can treat larger areas, but since no two people are alike, can miss smaller, more targeted areas of concern.
